WINDEY's Green Methanol Project Passes International Certification for Carbon Emission Reduction throughout Life Cycle

Time:2024-11-11 Number:0 From:WINDEY

On November 6, at the 7th China International Import Expo and the theme salon "Shipping Green Fuel Engine Injects Decarbonization Power into Global Trade" organized by COSCO Shipping Group, China Standard Inspection Co., Ltd. officially issued the life cycle carbon emission reduction certificate based on the ISCC system to WINDEY's Handan Green Methanol Project. This is another authoritative recognition to WINDEY's new energy consumption solution after WINDEY got the country's first ISCC EU certificate for green methanol raw material side with farms/plantations as the origin in September. Cheng Chenguang, deputy secretary of the Party Committee and general manager of WINDEY, attended the ceremony.

At present, the International Sustainability & Carbon Certification (ISCC) system is widely recognized as the certification standard for green methanol in the international community. It is mainly used to verify the raw material sustainability and greenhouse gas emission reduction in the production of green methanol. Generally speaking, relatively high evaluation standard is required for achieving life cycle carbon emission reduction certification. In other words, if the raw material is from biological origin, the whole process needs to reduce emissions by more than 65% compared to the fossil fuel baseline; if the raw material is from non-biological origin, the whole process needs to reduce emissions by more than 70% compared to the fossil fuel baseline. WINDEY’s success in passing this certification provides strong technical support for the subsequent certification of its green methanol products. With the increasing demands for sustainable energy solutions worldwide, the "Double Certification" will help significantly enhance WINDEY's competitiveness in the international market and provide strong support for the Company to explore new market opportunities.

As an internationally-renowned new energy service enterprise, WINDEY actively responds to the "Dual Carbon" strategy and dedicates itself to exploring and developing "New Energy +" consumption scenarios. The WINDEY Green Methanol Production Demonstration Area Project in Handan, Hebei Province aims to build the Handan New Energy International Innovation Port in the form of "Wind Turbine-Green Electricity-Green Hydrogen-Green Methanol" industrial chain, effectively expand the application scenarios of Handan's new energy and clean energy industry, and play a positive role in promoting the transformation and upgrading of the local industrial structure, energy structure, and transportation structure. Sources said that this project will be completed and put into production in 2027, and bio-methanol products from the project will meet the sustainability requirements of major shipping enterprises for methanol.

As leading industry peers, WINDEY, COSCO Shipping Group and its subsidiary China Standard Inspection Co., Ltd. have in-depth cooperation in such respects as international certification of green methanol fuel, life cycle carbon emission management, zero-carbon park design, emission reduction scheme design, and green methanol standard formulation. At the ceremony, COSCO Shipping Group gave high recognition to WINDEY's outstanding performance in the field of green methanol fuel, pointing out that WINDEY has played an active role in promoting the application of renewable energy and realizing the sustainable development of the global shipping industry.

Taking this as an all-new starting point, WINDEY will establish a deeper cooperation relationship with COSCO Shipping Group. Both sides will jointly explore the green fuel market, promote the application of green methanol in the global shipping industry, further combine the progress of the industry with ecological protection, deeply implement the green development concept in every step, and continuously contribute to the in-depth development of the global "decarbonization" undertaking.
